SINA and Trend Micro Expand Relationship – Offer Mobile Security to Users in China

Country’s largest portal offers Trend Micro™ Mobile Securityto protect users against threats including viruses and SMS spam

Beijing, China — January 17, 2006 — Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and content security and services, and SINA (NASDAQ: SINA), a leading online media company and value-added information service provider for China, today announced that they are expanding their relationship by providing security for mobile device users in China.

The joint agreement enables SINA to distribute Trend Micro™ Mobile Security software to users of its Chinese Web portal. Trend Micro Mobile Security is a software solution that defends users of intelligent mobile devices against viruses and provides SMS spam filtering. Customers can download and use the software from the SINA portal at no cost through April 2006 and then purchase the ongoing service with the recurring payment appearing on their mobile phone bill.

The mobile security service represents the latest development in the two companies’ relationship. In March 2005, the two companies announced that Trend Micro would provide more than 100 million SINA customers with email scanning services. Today’s announcement of a joint agreement to offer mobile security services to SINA’s mobile phone customers comes at a time when users are accessing the Internet via wireless devices, particularly with smartphones.

SINA has established strong partnerships with major Chinese mobile operators and is ranked first in download traffic and service quality. Trend Micro Mobile Security allows content providers and mobile operators to reduce virus threats and enables users to enjoy value-added services with the confidence that they are protected from malicious code. Because mobile security threats are expected to increase, Trend Micro and SINA are working together to deliver comprehensive protection for users in China, enabling a safer and more secure experience for one of the world’s fastest growing smartphone markets.

"We not only provide rich content to mobile users, but we also are accountable for ensuring the security and reliability of such content,” said Wang Gaofei, SINA’s mobile deputy general manager. "We have been looking for the best security partner in the industry to help us ensure the safest environment possible for SINA mobile services and enable users to enjoy the highest level of security. Trend Micro is, without a doubt, the right partner.”

According to David Yeh, the general manager of Trend Micro’s Chinese operations, the collaboration between the two companies is occurring at a timely point.

"A sea of change is taking place with mobile phone viruses,” Mr. Yeh said. "With the increasing popularity of smartphones in China and the increasing speed of mobile data networks, we want to ensure that Chinese mobile users avoid the threat of malicious attacks.”
