Virtualization

Trend Micro Secures Virtual Environments

Virtualization, a method that lets organizations consolidate multiple applications each running a different operating system onto a single server, is used in enterprises and medium businesses to save costs and improve operations. Each application runs as a “virtual machine” (VM). While virtualization offers many benefits, it also poses security challenges that are typical of any computing environment along with some challenges that are unique to VM environments. Trend Micro is working with virtualization innovators like VMware to protect virtual machine environments so that customers can securely take advantage of virtual computing. Today, Trend Micro offers customers support for many of our leading security solutions running in VMware.

Software Virtual Appliances at the Gateway

Virtualization is the key to reducing costs, increasing IT flexibility and improving business continuity. A software virtual appliance delivers an integrated, hardened OS and security application optimized for performance and continuous protection. The solution can be deployed on industry-standard “bare-metal” hardware or within a virtual environment such as VMware, each with its own merits to address specific requirements.

The following Trend Micro products are supported in VMware environments when minimum system requirements are fulfilled and VMware supports the operating system required for the Trend Micro product.

"Working with our recently announced VMsafe(tm) technology, Trend Micro can build advanced security features into future products aimed at helping our joint customers make virtual infrastructure more secure than a physical environment. For example, the offline scanning and remediation functionality being demonstrated by Trend Micro today would protect virtual machines against malware while they are dormant before customers bring them back online." - Brian Byun
Vice President of Global Partners and Solutions at VMware

"While organizations frequently use virtualization to help save energy costs and lower administrative IT expenses, they also have an opportunity to leverage this technology for improved security. Most security solutions in the market underperform in virtual environments so, together with VMware, we want to help our customers to both take advantage of the cost benefits of virtualization and improve their organization security profile at the same time." - Punit Minocha
Vice President of Business Development for Trend Micro
